What are swap cards by the Connies?

What is the Connies?

The Connies is a group of eclectic individuals. In the group there are tram conductors, performers, educators and nature lovers. They are all brought together by their passion for the 112 year Melbourne Tram Conducting tradition, and sharing knowledge with others.

At festivals, shows and events throughout Victoria, the group entertains, educates and informs the people in front of them, also handing out their colourful swap cards.

What are swap cards?

As a fun way to share information about current events and what's happening in the world, the Connies have printed swap cards. They're used for educational purposes mainly, helping to spread information throughout Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

For the past 10 years, the group has printed 10-20 series annually. During this time, the themes have been varied and diverse, including multiculturalism, social history and Aboriginal heritage.

To date, nearly two million cards have been handed out at community events such as environment day gatherings, agricultural shows, community field days and school parties. Many of the sets are the combined effort of the Connies and other local organisations.

The swap cards are eye-catching as well as informative. On one side there is a beautiful photograph image, often of either a nature scene or a portrait of an important character, and on the other is some quick key points about the particular theme. These cards are small enough to keep in your pocket to whip out and wow your friends with your worldly knowledge.
