Small they may be, business cards can be the first introduction to your company. This first impression can greatly influence what people think of your business, so it's worth investing a little time into the design, typeface, colours and card material used. The process in which your business cards are created can also become a positive talking point for you too - especially if you opt for environmentally friendly printing!

Melbourne jewellery designers, Scattered Ants, decided to put a little more thought into the creation of their business cards by combining their taste for the colourful, crafty and organic to end up with clean, green recycled business cards.

Inspired by aztec shapes, a bright pop of colour and handmade crafts, Scattered Ants incorporated these ideas into their business cards. The cards are printed on 100 per cent post-consumer recycled 350gsm EcoStar paper, and use vegetable based inks.

The business cards appear to be made of an earthy-looking paper, but it was in fact scanned and printed as part of the artwork, saving the extra cost of using an actual brown board. A clever typeface is used on the card, giving the appearance of a line of ants forming each letter.

The layout of the cards is simple but effective, and limits the colour palette to three colours- white, seafoam and pink. These shades stand out well against the organic brown card, with the bright pop of seafoam and pink reflective of Scattered Ants as a brand, as these colours are often used in the handmade jewellery.

The environmentally-friendly business card also incorporates Scattered Ants' fondness for geometric shapes, framing these around the text to sit as a sort of graphic for the card.
