In conversation with Diana Orinda Burns - Printmaker

Diana Orinda Burns is a professional printmaker who has workshops running through the Castlemaine Stage Festival this year, an annual festival celebrating many different forms of art. 

Diana's works are held in major national and international art galleries. Passionate about printmaking and teaching, she has printed works for indigenous Western Dessert artists, Archibald finalists and most recently John Olsen.

We caught up with Diana during her first workshop for the Castlemaine State Festival. We discussed the festival, the region, her workshops and her printmaking career. 

"The Castlemaine State Festival is a wonderful festival to come and visit. Its also fabulous for any artist, whether their in the visual arts, or their a musician, or a playwright. Its just so broad."



WORKSHOP DETAILS

1. ETCHING ON ALUMINIUM - A TWO DAY WORKSHOP
This innovative workshop embraces the “non toxic” way to experience the traditional practice of etching. Learn a range  of techniques including hard and soft ground, sugar lift and chine-colle.

2. DRY POINT ON RECYCLED RECORDS - A ONE DAY WORKSHOP
Record the moment using recycled LP’s. An acid free alternative to traditional etching, learn how to incise and scratch directly into the record surface to create single colour images with tone and texture. Experience working with a round format gaining insights into printmaking practices.

3. MAGICAL MONO-PRINTS - A TWO DAY WORKSHOP 

Learn how to make unique prints using multi-plate techniques with layers of colour, experiment with transparent and opaque inks using a painterly approach to colour and texture with  brush and rollers.
